Questions for the class...all the questions are taken from John 12.
  1. Why do you think the Greeks (Gentiles) who had come to the feast chose Phillip to make the request..”Sir we would see Jesus”?
  2. Phillip was from the city Bethsaida, wonder if Greeks lived there? Research..Phillip was of the Jewish nation.. is the name Phillip jewish?
  3. Phillip finds Andrew and they together took the gentiles to Jesus. Andrew seems to be a “behind the scene” man. Find the two other places in scripture where he is seen as an facilitator...a helper of sorts..
  4. Review 12: 23-33, and put in your own words the profound principles Jesus taught about His death/ The part about life springing forth from death?
  5. Read verses 25-27. Jesus is saying those who follow him..must have their priorities in order. To serve and follow Jesus we must make radical lifestyle changes. Paul said “If any man be in Christ..he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.”(2 Cor. 5:17). Also read Gal. 6:15. To follow Jesus is to go the way he went..not the way of earthly power and position..but the way of humility and death. How do you stand....are your priorities in line with the word of God.?
  6. Jesus says in v 26 “If any man serve me, let him follow me..what does it mean to FOLLOW JESUS.?
  7. Why do you think the father honors those who follow Jesus? v.26.
  8. Unlike the synoptic gospels John does not record Jesus agony in the Garden of Gethsemane before the Crucifixion (Matthew 26:36-46; Mark 14: 32-42; Luke 22: 39-46). But in verse 27 Jesus proves the genuineness of his humanity..as he is “troubled” realizing what is about to take place. All I can say is Thank God for Jesus!
  9. Why did Jesus dread the hour of his Crucifixion? Does 2 Cor. 5:21 help to understand this?
  10. The Father's audible voice is heard in verse 30, but the multitude did not correctly understand what was going on. Two other times in scripture a voice had been heard from heaven..at Jesus Baptism and the Transfiguration, where are these two scriptures found?.Hint: Both are in Matthew.
  11. Jesus says in v 32 that he must be “lifted up”. What was he talking about? See John 3:14; 8:28
  12. Jesus said in v 36 “While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of light.” Jesus said He came as a “light'. What has his light illuminated in your life that needs changing, if anything?
