STUDY NOTES FOR THE IN Study Notes for IN THE WORD BIBLE STUDY
Class I hope you have read or are
reading chapters 11, 12, and 20 of the book of Exodus.
I want to look at the Plagues of Egypt
and the various 'gods” of the country. God would use his power
against these false gods before letting his people go.
According to HALLEY'S BIBLE
HANDBOOK..The 10 plagues were aimed at the gods of Egypt and were
designed to give proof of the power of God of Israel over the gods of
Egypt. It is repeated over that by these miracles both Israel and
Egyptians would come to “know that the Lord is God.” (6:7;
7:5,17; 8:22; 10: 2; 14:4,18) Later, in the desert the manna and the
quail were intended to show the same thing (16: 6, 12).
Pharaoh's heart was hardened on his own
accord during the first five plagues, God hardened his heart during
the other five. Without them, Israel never would have been delivered,
and there would have been no Hebrew nation. (Halley).
